This program develops student's knowledge and skills in the areas of automotive systems operation, trouble-shooting, maintenance and repair. The program is transferable to California State University campuses, which offer Automotive Technology or related programs. The Associates Degree requires the completion of 60 units with an overall G.P.A. of 2.0, including the General Education and Elective courses.
Elite Automotive Program
This is a thirty-two week (two semester) automotive program offered at Bakersfield College for the students that seriously want to become automotive technicians. It is sponsored by the local automotive dealers with incentives such as; uniforms, tools and On the Job Training (OJT) with pay. Elite automotive students need to take two advanced automotive classes each semester. The choices are: B14 Electrical/electronics Computers, B15 Fuels and Emissions, B106 Brakes and Suspension, B2a Engines or B112 Transmissions
The requirement to get into the elite automotive program is a recommendation from your College or High School automotive instructor. The student must have excellent attendance, including no tardies or leaving early request and a 3.25 GPA or higher in automotive classes.
Students wanting into this Elite Auto Program should start by enrolling into two advanced automotive classes in either the fall or spring semester. Students entering the program in the fall will have most of their OJT during the winter recess. Students starting in January will have their OJT in the summer. Excellent attendance and good grades will assure students are recommended into the Elite Automotive Program.
